A review of Bar Napoli by Hugh Ross written on Wednesday 27th of December 2006
After being introduced to this restaurant over twenty years ago and dining there on most visits to Edinburgh, we will not be back. On 23rd Dec we took our friends and family to Bar Napoli for dinner and were greeted by a very friendly, helpful lady who suggested we access the restaurant by the alternative entrance (easier with buggy). Unfortunatly this area of the restaurant is the domain of the most dour unpleasant waiter. Not a single smile or welcome was forthcoming. Every request was carried out as if it was a great chore. We actually heard diners at other tables commenting about this awful service. I have a notion that the sour face is because of a lack of tips. Well guess what, he did not have anything to smile about after our visit. Due to the fact that the food here is very good and this may have just been an off day, our family visited again on 26th Dec. We made sure we used the main entrance for this visit, but much to our disappointment we were shown through to the lower half of the restaurant and waited on by the afore mentioned waitor. Everything as above again and also mixed the order up which he proceeded to correct at a free table next to ours instead of taking back to the kitchen. Unbelievable. Rome was not built in a day but Napoli could fall very quickly..
