A review of Thai Lemongrass by Rw written on Friday 30th of May 2008
Pleasant surroundings. Many dishes relatively inexpensive, perhaps resulting in a tendency for staff to hurry you out to free the table for the next diners.
But really don't go if you like Thai food. I've been three times in the last year - the first two times I thought I wouldn't go back, but did because I live nearby and hoped it would have improved.
All the dishes I have seen use the same base - a brown, over salty, slightly sugared, vaguely Thai-spiced broth. By adding prawns (but little detectable chilli or lemongrass), this is renamed tom yum soup. By adding dubious-looking chicken, baby aubergines and a few lime leaves, it is renamed 'thai green curry' or 'thai red curry' or many other things.
Their whole fish look good, and perhaps the chef puts effort into the Chefs Recommendations rather than the popular dishes - I don't plan to risk trying this out..
