A review of Sony Centre by Jack Ogilvie written on Saturday 27th of September 2008
Its always refreshing to see somebody knowledgable and local , I too enjoyed same day service on a large screen TV, and there was no charge for delivery.
I have nothing against the giants personally or their delivery charges, but have you ever tried asking technical questions to the factory thrown out ( can I help you ? ) or how about ( you will definately need a 5 year warranty ) staff at these big locations.
Every time I visit the most popular Departent store in St James Centre its always new and quickly trained staff keen and pleasant albeit, but having to queue up for a '' I'm waiting to but a TV '' ticket and then pot luck with your sales person is a bit out of date !
I am now 72 years old, and its all change in old stockbridge..not just the local Tv man , the Butcher, Fishmonger and even the Ironmongery are all under threat by these monopolising Giants.
Village life will soon be a dream , charities and foreign shops are all I can see in Stockbridge , Morningside, Newington and Costorphine RD areas,
not to mention the abundance of take-aways.
Does anyone remember on a Saturday going to the shops? to the haberdashery maybe , or the linen shop,
Does anyone remember no charge on deliveries and not having to wait 4 or 5 days on your new TV ?
Maybe it sounds like I'm complaining, maybe I am .
Mr Dyson, Mr Corson and the COOP, are all we have left .
when they leave , we can all buy a second hand £2.00 table lamp and put on some weight !
