A review of Vine Bar by Lobz written on Friday 8th of May 2009
You could only describe the Vine Bar on North Junction Street in Leith as a classic "old man's" boozer . . . the stereotypical black and green facade bears well with the traditions of years gone by. Early opening hours remember the days when most pubs in Leith started pouring pints at the crack of dawn to thirsty posties and dockworkers. Inside the mood is friendly and traditional, regulars prop up the bar day in day out and always have a story to tell, sometimes the stories are incomprehensible but it's still worth a listen to. The usual pub games are there, darts and domino nights every week plus the pool table through in the back lounge easily helps wile away the hours of a dull Edinburgh afternoon. Large screen TV for the sports fans with the volume down (a bonus for the non sporties in the pub) and the good banter from Drew the bar manager and all his very capable staff all adds to the ambience of Leith. If this all seems oh so 19th Century to you, the Vine also has it's finger on the technology too. Up to date Jukebox full of the latest charts raise the tempo a little plus the introduction of Karaoke on a Saturday night. Song list eagerly boasted by the compare at around 70,000 tunes means there's literally something for everyone. Young and old, drunk or sober, local or new, you'll always find a cold pint, a wee dram, waiting for you at the Vine..
