A review of St Catharine's Convent Of Mercy by Canice written on Wednesday 24th of June 2009
If you want to see christianity in action go to St. Catherine's!! On a recent visit to Scotland I spent two nights in St. Catherine's Convent and enjoyed the genuinely warm welcome and hospitality of this small Sisters of Mercy community. As a student in Edinburgh in the 1960s I had known the house as a well kept traditional convent which housed a large community who worked in education and pastoral care in many areas of the city and beyond. It's still the stately and gracious old stone building. But how it has been transformed into a place of service to those most in need in this world - the homeless and hungry - thanks to two enterprising Sisters of Mercy and their 120 volunteers! Two hundred people are served nourishing breakfasts and dinners five days a week in comfortable surroundings, with dignity and a smile! Thank you Aelred and Catherine Marie..
