A review of Braidburn Inn by A J Fenstanton written on Saturday 7th of November 2009
This is the first review I have ever bothered to do but I was so unimpressed with last night's 'meal' there with friends that I wanted to make a comment.
Firstly, drinks are on the expensive side, particularly given it is still in the suburbs and not 'in town'.
It has a very poor food choice for vegetarians - none of the specials were veggie friendly and apart from soup there were only 2 options plus a salad - not what you really want on a freezing autumn night. I opted for pasta with pesto, red peppers and goats cheese. It was inedible - smelt and tasted foul - so much so in fact I couldn't get rid of the nasty taste for more than an hour despite drinking. I managed to swallow 6 pieces of penne pasta and left the rest untouched, which was ignored by the waiter when he collected the plates from the table.
At £9.50 for what was barely a couple of handfuls of pasta thrown in a bowl which came with nothing else i.e. no salad garnish, fries, garlic bread, etc, this was definitely into rip-off territory. No wonder it was very quiet on a Friday night.
To compare, the Laird & Dog at Lasswade has a lovely veggie lasagne which comes in its own dish, not just spooned onto a plate, nicely presented with some side salad and garlic bread and which costs less. Drinks are cheaper there too. I know where I'll be returning to...
My friends, both meat eaters, fared better although both agreed it was too expensive for the standard of food. However, there was a much wider choice for meat and fish eaters..
