A review of Kays Bar by Dorothy Mackenzie written on Monday 20th of June 2011
My family visited Kays Bar following an evening out We had relatives visiting from Canada and Norway and was keen to take them to this unique and interesting pub, as we have done many times before. I have no idea where they produced the bar man from but it wasn't from the school of good manners. He served us our drinks then shortly after came and told us that we had 10 minutes to finish or he would remove them. He proceeded to do this from one of our party, as we questioned this he insisted that is was the law and laughed when we said he was a bit hasty. We did wonder why the law didn't seem to apply to the couple sitting beside us who seemed to be left to finish their drinks, presumably breaking the law!!. There was 13 in our party so not a bad profit for the bar for a visit that barely lasted 30 minutes. He ruined a lovely night and our visitors got a lovely impression of Scottish hospitality-the only redeeming thing was the "gentleman" was definetlty not from Scotland. Pity because up til then Kays was one of our favourite bars .
